چکیده
EPIDEMIOLOGY Cervical artery dissection accounts for up to 20% of strokes in patients under 30 years of age (Bogousslavsky et al. 1987). The incidence of carotid dissection is about 2–3 per 100 000 per year (Schievink et al. 1993; Giroud et al. 1995); the incidence of cervical dissection must be higher because these fi gures do not take into account vertebral dissection (about 25% of all dissections), dissections without ischaemic events (20% of extracranial dissections) or asymptomatic dissections. Furthermore, dissections may be overlooked because the clinical manifestations resolve spontaneously and are not necessarily familiar to many emergency physicians. Most studies report either no sex predilection or a female predominance. The mean age is between 39 and 45 years. This young age may be in part due to diagnostic bias because the dissection imaging protocol is applied less frequently in older people.

متن کاملClinical manifestations of vertebral artery dissection.

Rarer clinical features include isolated headache or neck pain, cervical spinal cord ischemia and cervical root impairment. Asymptomatic vertebral artery dissections have been reported. In the case of pri...

One of the most important concepts in Marcel’s philosophy is that of hope. Marcel’s conception of hope relies upon a distinction between “having” and “being.” We do not have a belief; we are in a belief. Similarly, ...
